I think that everyone did a great job and put in a lot of effort in making their projects and explaining their issues. I really, really liked the biodiversity topic because it wasn’t related to wars or human conflict, and I also thought that before worrying about wars and poverty, we should take care of the environment around us as it isn’t not involved in the war. I think that some of the images that we saw of bloody animals, injured victims, and impoverished people were really an impact as they awakened us to realize that not everything’s well. I liked the idea that each group presented their information differently, but I did get tired of watching iMovies and listening to the same songs over and over again. I think that most of the groups lacked in presentation (like ours!) and were either talking too much and making us bored, or talking too less and just letting their visuals do everything

I would really like to improve our final presentation i got the chance to because we were quite unprepared, and i was quite rude to Sam and Thomas and i shouldn’t have. I would also like to be provided with more information because we had quite a problem getting any information, and the information that we got was soooo less. Also, i don’t think we gave our project the attention we should have because it didnt turn out as good as it should have.

Question: Overall, do you feel th U.N. is a successful organization? Why or Why not? Cite examples to support your view.

I think that the main answer to this question is that, too many cooks spoil the broth, because there are many other associations and governments interfering with the U.N. and they are mistaking the U.N. for a peace-making organization instead of a peace-keeping organization. Also as there is so much interference from other groups, the groups are trying to tell them how to be a better organization, not giving them positive remarks about what they are doing now, and changing them from a peace-keeping organization to a peace-making organization. I also think that even the U.N. is trying to interfere with other government rather that minding their own business. Also, sometimes people think that it’s the U.N.’s fault that the countries in poor status are no getting their required basic needs while the U.N. can’t help millions of poeple at once!!! Overall,I think that U.N. is a mediocre organization and it could be better it had less interference and messing around with.

What did you find interesting about this topic?

What I found interesting was that how could anybody kill soooo many people at once? And how cold such a thing a thing happen in a country like America? Why did the killer even do such a massacre? I think that the gunman was mentally over-stressed as he was student and maybe during a big test he may not have achieved a grade he wanted and to let his anger out killed many innocent people and himself. I think that the gunman may even have been “set up” to do the killing and just so he didn’t have to face the embarrassment from his family, he also killed himself. I also found out that there were 22 people wounded and that there were two attacks; the first one at 7 am which killed one person. The ABC news had also confirmed that the university had gotten two separate bomb threats.

What did you like about the initial blog posting?

I liked that pictures that he had because the one showing a wounded student gives you chills and also makes people realize that the killing was actual much worse than is being said. I liked the map that he had because it showed a clear position of Blacksburg, which is where Virginia Tech is.

I think that each presentation was unique in its own way because each Egyptian had a different voice. Some were arrogant, some were shy and some characters were loud and out going. It also depended on the individual presenting the speech on how they decided to portray the person. For example, I the presenter is a shy person but the Egyptian is very loud and proud, then it’s a challenge and a learning experience for the presenter. I learned that if you don’t try to mold yourself into the character or use the tools you have (like clothing and props) then your presentation is not as satisfying to the audience as it would have been if there were actions, expressions, dramatics and some props . If I would get the chance to change something about my speech that would be that I would work a little harder on my outline because, even though I got the necessary information there was still lots of lackinessin my outline. I also think that in the presentation I didn’t write the speech according to the outline format. Overall though , I think I did a good job and would also like to congratulate others for presenting their marvelous speeches.

My Speech

Throughout my life I was known by many names and had multi-faceted careers. My name is Imhotep. My most renowned jobs were of doctor, architect, high priest, scribe, and vizier to King Djoser. I was also known as first after the king of Upper Egypt. I am Imhotep, the great, who revolutionized modern pyramid architecture. I am Imhotep, who described 90 anatomical terms and 48 injuries. I am Imhotep, a god and High Priest. I am Imhotep and my name means he who comes in peace.

Some say I was born in Memphis, others claim my birth was in Thebes. My father was an architect ( maybe, that’s where I inherited my skills from) called Kanofer. My mother’s name was Khreduonk and my wife’s was Ronfrenofert.

I was a healer for men in pain and my job was to send sleep to them. I was also the Egyptian go of Medicine and healing. I built the Step pyramid for my great king Djoser. It was made of 6 mastabas which are massive blocks of stone. I was the High priest of Heliopolis and the Chief priest of Lower Egypt. I was usually shown in archaic priest costume.

As you know the Greeks thought themselves to be original but actually their god of medicine, Asclepius, was an identical inspiration of me!!! With the building of the Step pyramid, started a fad in pharaohs to built extravagant tombs for themselves. It was the step pyramid designs that revolutionized the ideas of the so-called famous Pyramids of Giza. The step Pyramid was the first known monumental stone building!!!

All in All, I , Imhotep was a great man all my life and after death, as I was given the regard of a god after2000 years of my death. I think that instead of being vizier to the king, I should been the king and the marvelous Ancient Egyptian civilization would have never ended!!

(Hennessy, Gail). “A Long Distance; Astronaut runs marathon in space.” <del datetime="2007-04-17T09:09:37+00:00">Scholastic News for Kids.</del>http://teacher.scholastic.com/scholasticnews/news/index.asp (April 16th, 2007) http://content.scholastic.com/browse/article.jsp?id=12003

What is the issue?

The issue is that astronaut in space, Sunita Williams, will be running in the 111th Boston Marathon on Monday 16th, April and she is going to run in space. Although many times people not in the actual venue of the race take part from somewhere else, this is going to be the first time anybody is going to run from space. There are going to be many difficulties as she runs because she will be tied to a harness and the race in space may not be the same time as Earth’s. The harness is also going to make it difficult and uncomfortable to run. The main reason she is running is because she wants to create awareness to young adults and children that exercising and being fit is essential for us.

Who is involved?

I think that not just Sunita Williams, but the whole world is involved and this is going to be a revolutionary step in the history of mankind.
The astronauts are involved because they are the ones that are going to be troubled while Sunita Williams runs her marathon.
The organizers on earth are involved because they will have to measure she ran in space compared to earth.

Who is affected and how?

The whole world is affected but mostly youngsters because the reason that Sunita Williams is participating is to educate children about being fit by walking and how. The astronauts are also affected because in space as you do not use your muscles they tend to stop functioning properly. If all the astronauts ran in marathons, then they will be less likely to have their muscles malfunction.

What would you do if you were directly involved?

This idea is going to impact the future and peoples thinking because it is going to motivate them to exercise and get fit through doing lots of jogging and running. If I were to follow her request, I would take part in marathons and running competitions and do many different forms of exercises. I would also organize many sports and physical events that promote good health and wellness.

What new information has emerged?

The information that has emerged is that the U.S. Vice-president, Dick Cheney was almost attacked by the Taliban, a terrorist group in Afghanistan, while he was on a visit there.A suicide bomber had placed a bomb outside the main U.S. Base in Afghanistan. There are said to be 5-15 people killed in the attack.

What is interesting about this topic?

he interesting fact about the topic is that even though he Taliban is no longer in power, they still do try to kill people and place bombs. Another interesting thing is that even though Mr. Cheney was inside the main base camp, he was still attacked and it shows that Afghanistan, is still not a very safe place to live.
